comfortably chic.

I have taken a bit of a hiatus and have neglected my blog, twitter feed and other social media outlets for over a month now.  “Why?” you may ask.  Life!  It all started back in November when I developed a breast infection (TMI? You nursing moms understand).   My son was also sick and husband out of town.  I am EXTREMELY fortunate to have a mother still willing to take care of me at twenty-five years of age; however, after I was in bed for almost two straight days it became difficult for me to play catch up.  Well, here I am, just about a week into the year 2014 and beginning to feel “caught up.”  I recently opened my twitter feed and came across the name “Tiny Devotions.” What a lovely surprise!  This company’s aim is to, “…spread awareness about mala beads that inspire their wearers to live more peaceful intention based lives.” They have the most beautiful pieces for purchase attached to such a wonderful objective.  I’m in love with the Calm Mala, and think it would be a fantastic Valentine's gift...from my husband ;).  Fall in love with your favorite here: http://www.lovetinydevotions.com/

Perhaps this isn’t so much of a “yoga fashion” suggestion as it is simply a piece (and company) I love and wanted to share.  This Tether Ring from Erica Weiner jewelry is so dainty and stunning I thought everyone would be interested in knowing about the site in which I found this gem…INCLUDING yogis!  When looking around in yoga class, my fellow classmates are typically wearing layers of bracelets, midi-rings and more!  If that describes you (it’s definitely me) check out all the beautiful finds at ericaweiner.com today!

Leggings.  In the yoga world, can you ever have enough?  This blog is still fairly new, and in regards to “yogi wear” I’ve written about leggings multiple times.  My philosophy:  If your practicing yoga you should own the same amount of leggings as you do jeans. Dare I say perhaps even owning more?!  So the legging posts shall continue!  Here is a chic pair from Forever 21: http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?

Kids can do just about anything and make it absolutely adorable even when the act is considered to be "bad behavior."  For example, seeing a toddler who is potty training running through a Barnes and Noble with their pants down is cute and funny.  However, seeing a 50-year-old man do the same thing is unsettling to say the least...and maybe a little funny.  Now people can practice yoga at ANY age without being frowned upon J, but seeing a kid in downward facing dog is one of the most darling things I’ve seen…ever!  So when coming across “The Little Yoga Mat” I had to buy one for my son.  Did I mention he is only 7 months?!  Perhaps, I got a little carried away, but I am looking forward to one day sharing the lovely practice of yoga with my baby boy.  Buy one here for the little ones in your life!

It’s very rare to see a yogi without layers of bracelets on.  Some wear them to represent particular chakras, some as a reminder of a mantra they love, OR some simply because it gives out that, “Look at me I'm worldly,” vibe :).  Whatever the reason, this find is something most will love: Chan Luu Bracelets

The company Sweaty Betty not only has an adorable name, but the activewear is even cuter!  Check out these Chandrasana Yoga Leggings below, and make sure to visit their site here.

“HURRY! “ This tends to be the mindset of most people living in the world today, and although it is good to remind ourselves to slow down it is also appreciated when something comes along to spare us even the littlest amount of time!  For instance,  you can go ahead and skip putting on a bra with this top from Lululemon.  It’s supportive, comfortable AND something you’ll feel good about wearing! Buy yours here: Bend and Flow Tank

Yes, I’m one of those girls that from time to time will wear leggings…(cough, cough)…in public.  It’s a terrible habit that I have failed to cease after becoming pregnant over a year ago.  Please, don’t judge.   However, I wanted to share with you an activewear clothing line that we don’t have to feel guilty about wearing outside the yoga studio!  The wonderful creators at Free People have designed a beautiful shop named, “FP MOVEMENT.”  Here is one of my favorite items you can wear throughout your vinyasa flow OR with one of your favorite high waisted maxi skirts: French Terry Cropped Pullover.

I’m a firm believer in the motto, “When you look good, you feel good.”  However, a lot of the fitness apparel available is expensive.  I have felt a tinge guilty about past purchases knowing their sole purpose was for me to sweat in them.  Well here is some good news: The good people at H&M have created a line of sportswear that is adorable and affordable!  Check out exhibit A: http://www.hm.com/us/product/08181?article=08181-A

Hey fellow yogis!  The chilly weather is fast approaching, and what better way to start the fall season than to purchase that perfect slouchy hat.  Check out b.mused knittery on Etsy for a variety of colors and styles.  PLUS, each item is an original created by the one and only designer and knitting extraordinaire Brit Prawat!

I'm not sure what it is, but I tend to workout harder if I like the fitness gear I'm wearing. Perhaps the idea, "When you look good, you feel good," comes to play here. And since the gym's walls are covered top to bottom with mirrors, I stand a little taller if I'm wearing something that exudes confidence versus a grungy old tee that has a suspicious stain on the collar.

I encourage you to try wearing something you like the next time you go for a run, head to the gym for an intense hour of crossfit, or simply practicing yoga in your living room. See if it makes a difference, and let me know some of your favorite pieces from your fitness wardrobe!
